TROY, NY– The Tri-City ValleyCats and United Way of the Greater Capital Region are set to host a school supply drive at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Wednesday, July 31 as part of the ValleyCats’ “Christmas in July” game that night. Fans can make their donations between 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the United Way table located at the main entrance of the stadium.

Fans that cannot make it to the game during that time frame can drop items off at the ValleyCats box office if they would still like to support this initiative. Fans can also text UWSCHOOL to 41444 to donate, and United Way will buy the supplies for you.

Items that are being accepted are three-subject notebooks, two-pocket plastic folders (primary solid colors), binders (1”, 2”, 3”), new backpacks, pencil boxes & pouches, colored pencils, highlighters, index cards, erasers, wipes, tissues and dry-erase markers.

The first 100 fans to make a donation will receive a $5.00 ValleyCats gift card, and then there will be a limited number of other prizes available for others who donate to the drive, while supplies last.

“The ValleyCats organization recognizes the importance of supporting the Capital Region community and the education of our youth,” said ValleyCats General Manager Matt Callahan. “Teaming up with our friends at the United Way on this school supply drive is a great way to make a positive impact, and will go a long way in getting our young students ready for the upcoming school year.”

“United Way’s focus on education includes providing students with the resources they need to be ready to learn on the first day of school,” said UWGCR President & CEO Peter Gannon. “We appreciate the partnership with the ValleyCats and the opportunity to have their fans support this community-wide effort.”

Fans will be able to learn more about United Way of the Greater Capital Region throughout the ballgame by visiting their table located behind home plate. As part of the Christmas in July theme, there will be an appearance by Santa Claus, cookie decorating, postgame fireworks and more.

Tickets for the July 31st game are available online by logging on to, by phone at 518-629- CATS, or by visiting the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium box office.
